what does it mean to be a published writer?
being a published writer means your voice has a home—and it matters. it means your words have crossed from the private page into the public world, where they can inspire, challenge, comfort, and create change. at the last poet society, being published isn’t just about being seen—it’s about being respected, protected, and paid for your art. you own your story. we just help you share it (and generate some money in the process).
about
the last poet society publishing co. is a youth-centered independent literary publishing company born from a deep belief in the power of poetry to educate, heal, resist, and ignite change. We amplify the voices of young poets from historically marginalized communities—including BIPOC, LGBTQ+, disabled, neurodivergent, immigrant, and low-income backgrounds—providing a platform where their words are honored, protected, and celebrated.
we are not here to own anyone’s story—we’re here to help it shine. every writer published through the last poet society publishing co. retains full ownership and copyright of their work. we publish under a creator-first model that prioritizes transparency, collaboration, and creative freedom.
our mission is to nurture bold, authentic literary voices and ensure that young poets are not only published, but paid and protected. we offer free developmental editing, mentorship, and marketing support to all selected writers.
royalties and rights:
poets and writers retain all rights to their work. we license pieces for publication only, meaning poets can republish their work elsewhere freely. the last poet society publishing co. operates on a fair royalty model: 70% of net profits from book sales go directly to the writers. the remaining 30% helps sustain our publishing efforts and youth outreach programs. We also offer optional workshops on copyright literacy, self-publishing, and building sustainable writing careers.
publishing guidelines for chapbooks and full manuscripts
