morning

In an unconscious display of perpetual hope

I do not move when encountered by light.

I am still until I am sure it notices me

until my thoughts flow through the everglades of my mind

until my body grows through the tribulations of time.

I will wait for its warmth to embrace me.

those five minutes before

there is something in my chest

I-need to drag this out of my body.

my feet are cold, but my socks should've

kept me warm.

the birds stopped flying south.

the cat just bit my ankle.

I've lost my chest,

it feels too corrupted to be trusted.

I've drowned my cheeks,

I am sure this will take my lungs next.

I place no verdict on my eyes,

a mere messenger of my mind.

I read the books.

I listened to the religions.

I did what was asked.

so why won't this leave

as quickly as it arrived.

frontal load

I have a nervous habit of asking others to excuse my distraction. I am with my head almost half the time. Willing myself to be honest with the other half of me.

They tell me;

I am to hold myself up, each morning

as if I had just been created by refurbished hearts.

To find shelter with the grey haired auntie,

curled under porch awning.

Happily becoming an apprentice to her life.

To find myself sitting on porches just because.

With nothing strong in my cup,

nothing that will let time pass

the hour of my mind's becoming.
